The 2oz is correct. The transmission is actually a contrifugal clutch. I am reviewing the service manual and in the "Final Reduction" section (read that as the final drive gears) abnormal noise is associated with "worn, seized or chipped gears" or "worn bearing".

I've got her keeping a care ear out for changes in the sound. The last I heard it is not so bad and is now more like a vibration (the weather has been warmer).

If it is worse in cold weather, would that indicate that it is more likely bearings??

Either way, I'm not making it a project for myself. there seems to not be more than a dozen parts though :) 3 special tool though :(
